"The Sin Within Her Smile"
I wanted to read this book because it is a Lovejoy mystery and we loved the TV series. Based on this one book I think I like the TV series better than the book, that doesn't happen often! In complete fairness I have not read the other books and I did not start out with the first one in the series. I found this book very confusing, it seemed to jump around a lot and make references to things that were never explained. Perhaps the previous books in the series would have cleared up some of these issues. After reading the book I did feel like the TV series picked a good actor to play Lovejoy. Maybe because I had seen the series already but when reading the book I could only picture Ian McShane.
It wasn't my favorite book and I had a little bit of a difficult time reading it but I think I should read at least one more in the series to form a complete opinion.

My summer love affair...
yes, I admit it, I fell in love again this summer. I fell into a deliciously seductive one sided love affair with a wine called "Aurora". The wine is produced by Daniel Cellars in Barboursville, VA. It is a chocolate raspberry wine. While I must admit it does not usurp my love for "Noche" which is still my favorite chocolate wine, it is perfect for summer. Noche is a wonderful cold weather chocolate wine, it is decedent but also heavy. Aurora is a chocolate raspberry wine and is lighter and obviously fruity. I found it perfect for summer. Aurora is best chilled whereas Noche should be served room temperature.
Once again, I blame Wegman's for my new addiction, they were having a tasting one day of Aurora and just one taste got me hooked. One of the many reasons I would like to live at Wegman's. If they would only rent out rooms...

trouble with posting, brain fog and guilty conscience...
I know I haven't written much lately but I did think I had posted a few things. For reasons that don't make a lot of sense and therefore we won't discuss them...I have tried to update my posts by email without actually logging onto my site. Here I was thinking that I had actually posted a few updates and when I took the time to check I find out that I have instead been diligently saving my posts in the drafts section instead of publishing. Why you may ask??? Because I selected the option that says "save to drafts".....yes I am a natural brunette.
But to be perfectly frank I really haven't been writing much lately. To steal a phrase from a fellow blogger, I have been a "slogger".
Slacker + blogger = slogger.
(I don't remember who said that but when I figure it out I will edit this post and give credit where credit is due!)
We have been busy lately but even when I have a few minutes I just haven't had the brain to write. My thoughts have been too jumbled for even me to sort out! But hopefully things are smoothing out up there and I will catch up on what has been going on in our lives this past month or so.
I had a doctors appointment this morning and the doctor told me,
"I know you are busy, I know you have two little kids to take care of, laundry to do, an house addition to finish, painting to do, cleaning to do, meals to fix, etc., etc. But when the kids take a nap you need to take a little bit of time for yourself, take a power nap, read a book, something you enjoy. The laundry will still be there, the dirt on the floors won't go anywhere but if you lose your sanity you will be in a real mess. I take at least 15 minutes during my work day where I usually go over to the hospital and find a place to hide. I may take a little nap or just close my eyes or just sit in the quiet, but you need some down time everyday."
That was a good thing for me to hear and it will help alleviate my guilty conscience as I sit and write this post, trying to ignore the pile of dirty clothes I can see out of the corner of my eye.

Sweet words of a toddler...
I heard "mama" for the first time! I'm sure other mothers will appreciate what a special milestone this is! I never dreamed I would wait 2 years, 11 days to hear it but what a wonderful feeling! I was talking to my baby and telling her "say mama, mama, mama" when Wythe walked over, patted me on the knee and said "mama". I looked at him and said "who is this??" pointing to myself, and he said it again! Oooo...proud mommy moment!
As some of you know my son has taken his time with his speech. He started saying a few words back in the winter and at 18 months had about 15 words he would say consistently, but "mama" was never one of them. Then one day we quit talking completely and quit his sign language, this concerned me and really concerned his doctor. His doctor wanted to send him to UVA for some testing in April because of the loss of speech and a couple other things. But I wasn't comfortable with that idea and my mommy instinct said to wait. Over the last month his vocabulary has started picking up again. At this two year appointment the doctor said that although he is way behind in speech he is making progress and that is what they look for, moving forward instead of backwards. In the last two weeks I have noticed huge strides in his speech. He is repeating words we say. He walks around the house and names the items he knows, I love the look of pride on his face when he gets it right! He walks around pointing to things asking what they are. This is such a fun time for us!
I know many people have told me that I will get tired of the questions and jabbering of a toddler and wish for quiet. That may be true, but after going so long with so little words and dealing with the frustration of a toddler that had no way to communicate...I say bring on the words!

More about "Rumblings in DC"...
The website FamousDC.com http://famousdc.com/2010/07/16/earthquake-hits-dc-california-laughs/ is cracking me up with their coverage of the "aftermath" of the earthquake. They have posted pictures of the devastation. Pictures posted below, please view with caution, may not be appropriate for small children.

They have posted quite a few stories about the quake, such as, "Burger Joint offering half-priced milkshakes to commemorate the D.C. quake", "Today, we are all Washingtonians. Pics of DC Earthquake Devastation", "7/16 Never Forget"....you get the idea. I love it when we can laugh at ourselves!
