Reading in January...

Some things never change, and for me that means reading, lots of reading.

In January I read the following books:

Christmas with Anne and Other Holiday Stories
by L. M. Montgomery
This collection of stories includes two from the Anne books. The rest are stories she wrote for magazines.  I was pleasantly surprised to find "new" stories.

Charmed Circle
by Dolores Stewart Riccio
This is the 2nd book in the Cass Shipton series. Enjoyable, entertaining mysteries about herbalist Cass and her Wiccan friends.  I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Caught up in a Story: Fostering a Storyformed Life of Great Books & Imagination with Your Children
by Sarah Clarkson
Fantastic book about the importance of reading to our children and inspiring in them a love of books. I found it very encouraging in our quest to build a family culture around reading and books.

168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think
by Laura Vanderkam
This book is a great reminder that we all have the same amount of hours per day.  People that accomplish great things aren't given more hours per day, rather they have learned to prioritize their day in ways that allocate their time better.

Everyone Brave is Forgiven
by Chris Cleave
I really enjoyed this love triangle that takes place in WWII London. The story is inspired by the letters from the author's own grandparents.  I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.

Silver Sparrow
by Tayari Jones
I picked up this book from the library because the author is coming soon to talk about her book. The book is about bigamy so it is rather sad, lots of heartbreak in there. But I think it is a good example of how messy and complicated lives can be and I think it will give the readers compassion for others in those situations.

Mere Motherhood: Morning Times, Nursery Rhymes, & My Journey Toward Sanctification
by Cindy Rollins
I was expecting this book to be more of a "how to" book and less of a memoir but I did really enjoy it. I found this book very encouraging and I think it is one I will turn to again on those days when my mothers heart is anxious and in need of reassurance that all will be well.

Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption
by Bryan Stevenson
This is one of those books that everyone should read!  Even if you don't believe reform is needed for our current judicial system and prison system, at the very least it should give you compassion for the many, many people incarcerated in our country.

'til next time...
